This is what Home Affairs staff are being advised by DFAT:
If you get calls from people in Australia in regards to their relatives or friends stuck in Afghanistan please ask them call the following number: 1300 555 135
It is a number that is set up for this process – they must call this number as opposed to dealing with us. That is the instructions from DFAT.
If someone is in AFghanistan they must call the Consular Emergency Centre (available 24 hours) on +61 2 6261 3305.
