TranQuill Legal is a law firm. We are bound under our code of conduct and ethical obligations to protect your privacy and, as best we can in a tough cypersecurity world, keep your personal information safe.

We do this by following the principles set out in the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

‍The purpose of this Privacy Policy (Policy) is to inform you about the types of personal information we collect, hold, use and disclose. It also explains how we collect, use and hold personal information, and to whom we may disclose personal information.  This Policy also outlines what you can do if you have concerns about this Policy or your privacy.

‍In this Policy, “personal information” means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. It does not matter whether the information or opinion is true or not, or whether it is recorded in a material form or not.

‍In this Policy, “we”“our” and “us” refers to TranQuill Legal Pty Ltd and “you” and “yourself” refers to any person about whom we collect personal information.

Personal information we may collect.

We collect data which may include personal information for the purpose of providing legal advice, and in the case of notarial services of verifying the validity of your academic documents, powers of attorney and other important documents for use here and overseas.

This data may include your full name, date and place of birth, address, contact details (such as telephone number and email address), identification details (such as your tax file number, passport details or driver’s licence details), academic records (such as your educational institution, enrolment/graduation years, and course names), and biometric information (such as facial images and fingerprints).

‍We also collect personal information if you engage us to provide legal or notarial services. This could include your or your representatives (eg your accountant’s or doctor’s or supplier’s) name, address, title and contact details.

‍‍We generally do not collect sensitive information, such as information about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions or associations, religious beliefs or affiliations, sexual orientation or practices.

We may retain information such as your criminal history and medical information (although any medical reports are loaded directly by the doctors engaged by the Department of Home Affairs.
How we collect your personal information

Verification data is generally collected via email or manually (either directly from you or through one of your professional advisors).

Other data may be via email, online web questionnaires/forms, or more traditional methods such as telephone, snail mail or in person.

How we hold your personal information

We use Office 365 and protected cloud based services provided by GoDaddy and Migration Manager to store your data.  These services may be outside Australia.

Why we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information?

Like any law firm, we only collect data that we require to get the job done. We are obliged to store this data for 7 years in the event of a complaint, query, auditing etc.

How to correct or see your personal information

Call us anytime to verify what we have about you. Note that we ask you to sign a copy of whatever we submit to Home Affairs, and any verification services we use will be given your signed consent form, a copy of your passport and the documents to be verified.

As per any cost agreement for a legal matter, you can get a softwcopy of your material within 14 days of the conclusion of your matter and there is a fee for a hardcopy. Please refer to the cost agreement for more information.

Who we disclose personal information to

We may disclose your information to the relevant authority for your matter. For notarial services we use a company called RapidID.

We may also disclose personal information to public authorities if we are required to do so by law.

We will never sell your personal information to anyone else.

Can you deal with us anonymously?

No. We will not disclose any information to anyone who is not a client or an authorised third party.

How to make a complaint

We will aim to respond to your request or complaint promptly. We take all complaints seriously and are committed to a quick and fair resolution.
